Apple Officially Announces the ‘iPhone 6’ and ‘iPhone 6 Plus’

Apple today announced the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus with Retina HD displays, NFC, improved optics, and much more. The new iPhones feature an A8 processor, with 1334 x 750 (4.7-inch) and 1920 x 1080 (5.5-inch) resolution displays, as well as a new M8 coprocessor. They also have sport a precision unibody enclosure of anodized aluminum that conforms seamlessly with the shaped glass of the display, resulting in a completely smooth and continuous surface. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are engineered to be the thinnest yet, delivering a bigger display in a design that is still comfortable to hold and easy to use.

iPhone 6 to Feature NFC, Wireless Charging, Faster LTE, Much Bigger Screen?

The iPhone 6 will reportedly include support for near field communication (NFC), wireless charging, a faster LTE radio, and a much bigger screen, according to VentureBeat.

A source ‘close to the situation’ told the site that the iPhone 6 is nearing completion and is now being tested for durability, speed, and network performance.

Although Apple held back on NFC in the past, the company is reportedly ready to pull the trigger now. It’s unclear if Apple aligned itself with the ISIS wireless payments standard or whether it will introduce its own mobile payments standard.

While the current iPhone contains a Category 4 LTE radio capable of speeds up to 150 Mbps, the new iPhone 6 is said to contain a Category 6 LTE radio which is capable of speeds up to 300 Mbps.

Cases began to leak earlier this month showing a repositioned power button, as previously rumored. Martin Hajek, a designer well known for his Apple concepts, has posted renderings of what the iPhone 6 might look like based on those cases.

Iskander Utebayev has posted a new concept for the iPhone 6 featuring a three-sided display.

The concept puts quick launch icons on the side display along with controls for the music player.

iPhone 6 Concept by NAK Design

The iPhone 5 (launches at the end of September “apparently”), but for now lets just move right on to the iPhone 6. While we all anticipate the presentation and launch of the next generation Apple iPhone, French NAK Design is already imagining the iPhone 6.

In the mockup the home button has moved from below the screen to the side of the phone, now to be used with the thumb. This allows for a much larger screen, in this case with a 125 mm x 63 mm dimension, 4.9-inch in total. We definitely like the clean looks, what do you think?
