Video: Common on Cruel Winter: “I Don’t Think It’s Gonna Happen”

VIBE caught up with Common backstage at Rock the Bells. Last winter, he told us that there was a slight possibility that G.O.O.D. Music would release a sequel to their debut label collaboration Cruel Summer, dubbed Cruel Winter. Then, rumors about Cruel Winter’s existence popped up again when CyHi The Prynce revealed that G.O.O.D. Music was “in negotiations with Def Jam” to release a second compilation by the end of 2013. But, according to Common that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Video: KiD CuDi Leaves G.O.O.D. Music

Kid Cudi made his way to Power 106 to sit down with DJ Felli Fel and Yesi Ortiz. During the conversation, Kid Cudi dropped a bomb and revealed that he is no longer on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. He says there is no beef and he will continue to do music with the camp. He says he just wanted to go in a different direction and focus on King Chip and his own Wicked Awesome label. He also mentions that he made the decision 6 months ago and that he spoke with Don C and Jay-Z about how he should approach Kanye.

“Man, everything is cool. Everything is peace with everyone on the label, but I’m announcing that I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music. And this is something that no one knows really. I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music. Me and Kanye were actually talking on the phone the other day, and there’s been things I wanted to talk to him about. About me wanting to start my own direction, and he got because he’s trying to start his own new path, and trying new things as an artist. And he was just like ‘Man, I feel you. It’s cool.’ This is just from a business standpoint. There’s no beef with anyone on the label. It’s all love.”

G.O.O.D. Music Covers August/September Issue Of Complex Mag

Can you tell me what the nature of your relationship with G.O.O.D. is?
2 Chainz: I’m not officially signed, paperwork-wise, to G.O.O.D. Music. But I have a great rapport with ’Ye. He called me before Watch the Throne came out. I’m an only child. I’ve got trust issues. So I don’t have a best friend, a brother, sister—nothing. Stuff was happening in my life that I couldn’t tell nobody. I didn’t have anybody in my life that I could tell, like, “’Ye just called me.” I’ve talked to ’Ye 1,000 times about trying to make this situation work for the both of us, so it won’t feel like anyone is getting used or anything. I’m in a position in life where I like talking about things like that. I came from a situation with DTP, being under Luda, where I got a phobia. Sometimes when an artist signs another artist, they’re so worried about themselves. And with ’Ye, he helps everybody.

Above 2Chainz discusses his current situation with label and his relationship with Yeezy. Check out some pics, video & the full cover story here. Continue reading “G.O.O.D. Music Covers August/September Issue Of Complex Mag”
