Video: Bun B Uncut: Talks Anxiety & Depression, Big KRIT’s Big Influence & Choosing to be Independent

Houston legend Bun B dropped by Sway In The Morning and dropped some true gems. His upcoming album Bernard is inspiring him to open up about financial literacy, legacy, and mental illness in the black community.

The UGK member let us know that he is now an independent artist, free of deadlines and other menacing hassles. With Big K.R.I.T. as his musical coordinator, the 44-year-old is confident this project will be impactful and sonically satisfying. Also on the team is Bun B’s wife, referred to as “The Muse”, who he deems his MVP both professionally and personally.

In the album, Bun B explains that he’s addressing taboo conversations within the black community such as men crying and subconsciously self-medicating for mental illness. He explained he had to instruct men how to grieve over his longtime friend and partner, Pimp C’s, passing:

“Real men cry; don’t get it twisted. Every day isn’t going to be a good day for you.”

Check out the full interview below and see he and Sway exchange eulogies, discuss self-preservation, and why he deems Bernard his first solo album.
