Alexander McQueen 2011 Fall/Winter Skull T-Shirt Collection

The skull motif is one that has been inextricably linked with Alexander McQueen in the fashion world. For better or for worse, the tortured designer’s brilliant, at times macabre themes and eventual suicide has solidified his brand as one of the darker ones in the industry, focused on the symbology of death, life and renewal. New from the label’s 2011 Fall/Winter collection comes this set of graphic T-shirts all featuring a large skull made up of a multitude of complex, smaller hidden designs. The “regal” Ts create the skull through the use of crests, military regalia and laurels while the visually-stimulating all-over printed shirt uses a network of smaller images to get the job done – resulting in a piece that looks more like an impressionist painting than a T-shirt. Available now from ÂŁ120.00 (approximately $190 USD) to ÂŁ285.00 (approximately $450) over at oki-ni. Continue reading “Alexander McQueen 2011 Fall/Winter Skull T-Shirt Collection”

2011 Audi AS8 by ABT

German tuner ABT has released word (and pictures) of the first tuned 2011 Audi A8 we know about, the AS8. ABT freely admits that the new A8 is pretty sporty on its own. Therefore, the AS8 package seeks to “underline” what Audi’s already done in terms of huge, sporting luxo-bargeness. To wit, “[ABT] has not changed the elegant glider into a racing car, but carefully into a confident and sporty automobile.” More photos after the jump…<!–more–>

Naturally, ABT started with a version of the A8 we can’t get here in the States, the diesel. In stock form, Audi’s 4.2-liter TDI V8 produces a healthy 350 horsepower and a yacht-towing 590 pound-feet of torque. In ABT trim however, the sparkless mill churns out 385 hp and a foundation-shifting 649 lb-ft of torque. The car’s 0-60 time falls from the factory’s 5.5 seconds to around five flat. Quite good for a 4,300+ pound oil burner, no?

Of course it would be in very bad form to just hop up the engine and leave the rest of the car stock — how would anyone know you’re driving a tuner? To that end, ABT has gone on and designed a body kit for the AS8. This kit primarily consists of a front spoiler with a splitter, side sills and a rear-end apron enclosing new tail pipes. There’s also a three-piece rear spoiler and 21-inch wheels. We’ve never been totally sold on the looks of the 2011 A8, so while the ABT treatment helps in some respects (the rear looks excellent), it doesn’t help much in others. Specifically the droopy looking sides and over-sized schnoz. But hey, at least they’re trying. Spotted at AutoBlog.

2011 Bentley Mulsanne [Photos]

Bentley just issued a press release, finally detailing all of the specs on their new Mulsanne sedan…and it’s a big one. That applies to both the release itself and to the car, which will topple the scales at nearly three tons. The Bentley Mulsanne’s curb weight is listed at 5,700 pounds, or roughly three Lotus Elises.

Pulling all of that luxury will be a twin-turbo 6.75-liter V8 producing 505 horsepower at 4200 rpm and a stump-pulling 752 pound-feet of torque at a very low 1750 rpm. There’s an 8-speed ZF automatic doing delivery work, helping the Mulsanne glide from 0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds, to 100 in 11.6, and on to a top end of 184 miles per hour. Fuel economy is seldom a concern for owners of such vehicles, but the big Bentley has been rated at 16.7 mpg on the combined EU cycle.

No doubt about it, this is one big sedan. For a similar curb weight the Mulsanne ends up being about seven inches longer than the outgoing Arnage, an inch wider, a tenth of an inch taller, and a half foot more expansive between the axles. That’s pushing it almost into Maybach levels, easily distancing it from top sedans from BMWMercedes-BenzJaguar and Audi. Only the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe bests it, with the Phantom Sedan in a whole ‘nother league. For those who buy their luxury by the pound, those kind of things matter.

2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible

Bentley has dropped the details on its newest creation ahead of its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show, and claims that it’s produced the world’s fastest four-seat convertible and the quickest drop-top Bentley in the automaker’s history.

The 2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible is the soft-top sibling to the marque’s latest coupe, packing the same twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 as the hard-top and putting out 621 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Also like the fixed roof variant, the Supersports Convertible can run on either gasoline or E85, returning a 0-60 mph run of 3.9 seconds and a top speed on 202 mph no matter what fuel you choose to top up with.

Other carryovers include the all-wheel drive system and ZF-sourced six-speed automatic that sends power to four, 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels shod in high-performance Pirelli rubber (275/35Z R20). However, unlike the hard-top, the rear seats remain, along with carbon fiber buckets and matching trim, Alcantara and a host of interior amenities.

Bentley hasn’t released pricing on the Supersports Convertible yet, but considering the coupe starts around $270,000, you and three friends can share the $300k tab when it goes on sale this summer.

2011 Audi A8 packs optional EDGE, Google Earth

We’re guessing it won’t be the tipping point that finally convinces you to buy an Audi A8, but it looks like those in the market for the car will be able to add a nice little option to the 2011 model: a built-in nav system complete with Google Earth and a GPRS / EDGE modem. Yeah, so it’s not 3G, but it is apparently the first time that Google Earth has been made available in a production vehicle, which certainly counts for something. In addition to serving up various Google-sourced points of interest, that modem will also let you download a range of other up-to-date information to the nav unit, although it’s not clear exactly what that will entail. No word on how much it’ll add to the cost of the A8, but it looks like it won’t be available right when the car rolls out early next year — Audi is only saying “mid 2010” at the moment.

Update: As some commenters have helpfully noted, it seems that while the A8 won’t initially roll out with 3G, it will be getting a UMTS modem in mid 2010, which should provide the bandwidth necessary for Google Earth and allow for simultaneous voice and data connections.
